Does buying a HD DVD player still make sense?

HD DVD was dealt a death blow at CES this year when Universal and Paramount ended their exclusive agreements to produce only HDDVD disks. I think this is great news even though I am sorry to see Sony win this format war.

Why then should you be interested in buying an HDDVD player you might ask? Well, if you are interested in watching true HD content you shouldn't. I would though suggest that if you are looking for a cheap HD up-converting DVD player you keep your eyes open for bargain closeout HDDVD players. There could come a point when an HDDVD player will go for less than a standard up-converting player letting you watch your normal DVDs in HD for less.
